The University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor of Neurophysiology to the Department of Neuroscience to commence on 1 May 2019 or as soon as possible.
The Department hosts more than 20 research groups that investigate the molecular, cellular and systems level mechanisms of brain function. The teaching curriculum covers subjects taught at the bachelor and master programs at the Faculty, including Medicine, Medicine and Technology, Molecular Biomedicine, Dentistry, and Human biology.

Job abstractJV_description
The appointee is expected to take a leading role in developing the research field of neurophysiology. The appointee is expected to work experimentally with basic and/or translational aspects of cellular and/or systems level neurophysiology within the central or peripheral nervous system. Theoretical and practical teaching of neurophysiological subjects and methods will be an important part of the job.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

• Research, including publication/academic dissemination
• Research-based teaching, including associated examination
• Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
• Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
• Academic assessments

Required qualifications
Applicants should have a strong independent research background in cellular and/or systems level neurophysiology within the central or peripheral nervous system. A significant track-record of successful external research funding as well as a significant publication record in high-level, international, peer-reviewed journals is required. Candidates are also required to have documented university level competencies in delivering high-quality undergraduate/graduate teaching and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. The candidate is specifically invited to describe how her/his background and teaching experience relates to the study programs being taught at the Department. For non-Danish speaking candidates teaching can initially be performed in English, but after a period of maximum 4 years, the candidate must be able to teach in Danish.

Finally, candidates are expected to have a managerial and out-reach qualifications.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, in addition to their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

The successful applicant should be able to document:

• Research qualifications achievable in a position as assistant professor or equivalent within the subject area
• Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
• Research-based teaching

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.
