Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Laboratory technician for high-throughput screening and automation to join the DTU Fermentation core.

We are offering 2 positions, that will be placed at DTU Bioengineering, section of Synthetic Biology working with gene and genome editing, synthetic biology, regulation engineering, protein production, expression and discovery of bioactive compounds across cell factories, in particular yeast, filamentous fungi, plant and mammalian cells. The section has a total staff of approx. 35, of which 7 are faculty.

The job


Your primary role will be to complement the current Fermentation core team within the high-throughput screening, micro-fermentation and automation lab. You are expected to conduct experiments, to assist 'in-house' researchers as well as external platform customers, and in addition implementing and developing of novel high-throughput methodologies for speeding up the design, engineering and screening of superior microbial cell factories.

Moreover, you will be responsible for keeping the equipment up to date and running, to handle the yearly check-ups and system maintenance, the training of researchers and project students, and participating in the teaching activities in which the Fermentation core is involved.

Last but not least, a very important part of your job will consist of the handling of chemicals for all the sections within DTU Bioengineering.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate has several of the following skills:

• Experience with liquid handling robots and automation (e.g. HAMILTON, Tecan EVO, or similar) and HPLC.
• Microbial physiology and molecular biology of microbial strains (previous experience within bacteria and fungal strains is a must, and previous work with non-conventional yeasts is a plus).
• State-of-the-art molecular cloning techniques for fungi and/or bacteria.
• Fermentation technology.

We expect that you are an efficient team worker, have good communication skills, and a good team work spirit. Also, a good sense of humor will be appreciated.

Salary and Appointment Terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is for 5 years.

Expecting starting date 1st of September 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.
