2 Research Scientists in Metabolic Engineering of Yeast

We are seeking two highly motivated research scientists to join the Yeast Metabolic Engineering group at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The group headed by Dr. Irina Borodina focuses on metabolic engineering of yeast cell factories for sustainable production of chemicals from renewable feedstocks. We develop genetic engineering tools, which facilitate iterative cycles of strain development, and work on general methodology for accelerated rational strain design, based on systems biology-level data and modelling. Responsibilities and tasks Successful candidates will develop novel synthetic biology tools and systems biology methodologies for rapid metabolic engineering of yeast and apply these to create yeast cell factories for production of bulk and fine chemicals. The candidates are expected to employ systems biology approaches to metabolic engineering, tapping into the latest -omic technologies, including DNAreseq, RNAseq, proteomics, flux analysis and metabolite profiling. The candidates will publish their research results in international peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences and seminars. Patenting activities can also be expected. The successful candidates will also contribute to teaching and to the internal collaboration at the Center and external collaboration with international industrial and academic partners. They will also supervise students and research assistants. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Further qualifications: •PhD in Biotechnology, Bioengineering or Molecular Biology •Excellent track-record of publications and other scientific achievements •Expertise in metabolic engineering of microbial hosts •Expertise in advanced genome editing of yeast (e.g., CRISPR-Cas9) •Experience with writing patent applications •Strong work ethic and motivation to succeed within a competitive research field •Team spirit and excellent collaboration skills Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation We offer We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare.
