The Department of Food Science, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Professor in the area of “Dairy Product Technology”. The position is available from 1 January 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is in parallel advertised as Associate Professor in “Dairy Product Technology”.

The Professor will be a part of the Section for Ingredients and Dairy Technology, and must be capable of, and interested in conducting and developing basic and applied inter-disciplinary research of high international standard in the field of dairy chemistry and technology. The position will involve extensive collaborations within the department and with national and international academic groups and industrial partners. The candidate must actively contribute with teaching in dairy technology on the BSc in Food Science and the MSc in Food Science and Technology programs, including the specialization in Dairy Science and Technology.

The research within the Department has the mission to contribute with new solutions for society and industry in order to support sustainable food production, food security and safety as well as production of high quality food promoting human health and wellbeing. The Department of Food Science is recognized for excellence in food research, education, and industrial collaborations. The Department is an international workplace with English as primary working language.

The candidate must be able to carry out research and teaching in the field of dairy product technology, i.e. have a strong emphasis on technology relevant for the manufacture of dairy products. The research should preferably link research aimed at understanding milk component and ingredient interactions at a molecular level to final dairy product quality with focus on nutritional and functional properties as well as contributing to developing sustainable food production.

The research should preferably cover some of the following areas within dairy chemistry and technology:

• Dairy chemistry including colloidal aspects
• Technology and manufacture of dairy products
• Functional properties of dairy components and dairy derived ingredients
• Interactions between ingredients and milk components
• Milk components as ingredients

The successful candidate has an independent research profile and an international research record with a relevant background within dairy technology. The candidate is also an inspiring teacher with visions for development of teaching. It is crucial that the candidate is able to foster strong collaborations with the dairy and ingredient industry, and has shown ability to attract external research funding.

Qualifications are expected within the following areas:

• Good project management and leadership skills of research projects involving collaboration between academia and industry
• Experience with international collaborations
• Ability to develop collaborative research project ideas
• Capacity to build up an independent research group with a clear vision
• Success in obtaining research grants
• A collaborative and innovative mindset
• Documented scientific impact and outreach of conducted research
• Successful track record in industry collaboration

In addition to the above mentioned research qualifications applicants are required to have a relevant Ph.D. degree and university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and ability to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen’s teacher training program for assistant professors is required.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at international level, including contributions to development of their field (e.g. editorial positions, organization of conferences, participation in technical/scientific organizations), as well as their documented teaching qualifications and personal skills. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

The successful candidate will be part of an internationally oriented and dynamic Section. The section has at its disposal various pilot plant facilities and advanced analytical infrastructure.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Commencing salary is currently up to DKK 615.415 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 105.235)

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
