Lundbeck Foundation GeoGenetics Centre for Brain, Disease, & Evolution is recruiting an Assistant Professor in palaeoanthropology for designing, managing and implementing the data collection and data base of the project by May 1st 2019.

Background
Headed by Prof. Eske Willerslev, the Lundbeck Foundation Centre for GeoGenetics (LFGGC) has been a world leading research group in ancient genomics for more than 10 years. Technical and scientific progress have moved the field of ancient genomics towards automated laboratory procedures.

The position
The LFGGC offers a busy and stimulating working environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong tradition for collaboration. We are employing a qualified, highly motivated and committed full-time academic at the LFGGC for four years with the possibility of extension. The work is conducted in close collaboration with partners from Western-Eastern Eurasia, Far East Asia, Southeast Asia and other scientific staff members at LFGGC.

The responsibilities are designing of the data collection, identifying potential collections to be sampled, having a strong network of collaborators and developing it, coordinating the sampling of the collections with the staff members at LFGGC, being specialized human skull morphometry, conducting anthropological profiles of the skeletal material when necessary, documenting the skeletal remains, conducting excavations, contributing to the management of the database and reporting progress.

This includes but is not limited to:

• Identifying potential collections of skeletal remains in Western and Eastern Eurasia, Far East Asia and Southeast Asia from Palaeolithic to Historical Ages.
• Having a strong network of collaborators in Eurasia and Far/Southeast Asia.
• Responsibility for developing this network of collaborators.
• Responsibility for coordinating the sampling in Denmark and abroad.
• Conducting biological profiles on the skeletal remains when necessary.
• Acquiring new skeletal material through excavations in Asia would be appreciated.
• Bringing archaeological expertise on the sites.
• Documenting the skeletal remains or sites through bibliography when necessary.
• Participating in the scientific activities of the group.
• Following the technological developments.

Qualifications

• Relevant academic degree (PhD) in palaeoanthropology, specialized on the origins and migrations of modern humans, specialized on the human skull morphometry, expertise on Far East and Southeast Asia would be appreciated.
• Strong experience with sampling of skeletal remains for ancient DNA.
• Strong experience in archaeology and excavations.
• Strong experience in studying and publishing anthropological remains in collaboration with other disciplines such as palaeontologists, archaeologists, geologists, geochronologists, geneticists.
• An independent, rational and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.
• Experience in supervision and training of scientific personnel.
• Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.

Terms of employment
The employment is as an Assistant Professor. The 4-year position will be available from May 1st, 2019. The 4-year position is a full time position 37 hours a week.

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 426.625 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 72.952). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
