Department of Veterinary Clinical and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in Veterinary Pathology from January 1st 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About us
Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences provides skilled candidates and creates new knowledge in food safety, antibiotic resistance, animal models and welfare, immune system and lifestyle diseases. The department covers a wide spectrum of animal and human disease biology in close collaboration with other departments at the University of Copenhagen.

The research groupe of veterinary pathology is part of the section of Veterinary Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pathology and its activities focus on the development of models for human and veterinary diseases in mammals together with the development of new diagnostic methods. This includes animal infectious diseases and welfare related lesions as well as laboratory related aspects.


Job abstractJV_description
In considering applications for the assistant professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work on an international level within the area of veterinary pathology in mammals, especially with focus on pathomorphological changes and development of new diagnostic techniques related to infections and/or welfare related disorders. In these areas, especially the creation of a better understanding of inflammatory reactions in animals is important. It is expected that the candidate will take part in the Sections teaching within his/her area of competence but with focus on general and special veterinary pathology. The candidate may be appointed to duties within the area of Research based advice for the authorities and/or Veterinary preparedness and specific research projects connected to these areas.
The candidate is expected to do serious efforts to attract external funding and to participate in a residency training program in veterinary pathology in order to be board certified as Diplomate of European College of Veterinary Pathologists.


The Assistant Professor’s duties will primarily consist of:

• research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication
• research-based teaching with associated examination duties
• communication of research results to the public
• peer assessment

Required qualifications

• a PhD degree or similar qualifications in relation to the above subject area
• research and teaching experience within the field of the position
• established national and international scientific network
• a EU recognized education as a veterinarian (DVM)

The Assistant Professor is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.

The gross basic salary range for Assistant Professors is DKK 32,332 to DKK 34,060 per month (level 6 to 8). To the basic salary a supplement could be negotiated, dependent on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. An additional 17.1 % monthly contribution to pension will be paid by the employer.

The position is time limited to a 4 year period.
