SDU Mechanical Engineering (SDU ME) invites applications for vacant positions as Assistant Professor(s) in Mechanical Engineering. SDU ME is part of Department of Technology and Innovation at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark, located at the main campus in Odense.
SDU ME embraces a wide field of expertise within mechanical design and construction, structural dynamics and optimization, mechanical robotics, materials science and fluid mechanics. We offer educational programs at both bachelor and master levels. We create research and development in collaboration with internal and external research institutions as well as industry.
At the Faculty of Engineering, we are building an I4.0 Lab, which aims at bringing students, researchers and engineers from industry together to develop intelligent products and produce faster and more flexibly than today.
At SDU ME, we have decided to strengthen the competences of the section and we are therefore looking for a candidate with strong competences in applied mechanical design. The applicants are also expected to possess skills in several of the following areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, topology optimization, and finite element analysis (linear and non-linear). Applicants should also master simulation software like LabView, Matlab, ANSYS and production of models in 3D CAD.
The successful candidate for this position is expected to contribute both in on-going research projects and by defining and establishing new projects together with colleagues and industrial partners. The candidate must be able to compete for national and international research grants.
In addition, the candidate shall contribute with competence and dedication to teaching of existing and new courses at bachelor and master level and supervise bachelor and master students.
The candidate must have a PhD degree in mechanical engineering or a related field as well as:
- Research experience in some of the fields mentioned above
- Research vision and potential
- Experience with industrial collaboration
- Participation in national and international academic networks of researchers
- Team-working skills in addition to self-motivation and the ability to work independently
- Good communication skills in English
The assistant professorship is a 3-year temporary position and requires completion of the Danish University Teaching Education certificate as part of the position.
Being able to lecture in Danish is an advantage. We expect non-speaking Danish candidates to learn to speak Danish within some years.
The position is open now and the start date is as soon as possible but negotiable and preferably no later than August 1, 2019.
Requirements for the position
Employment as an assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.
Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.
Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel.
As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.
Conditions of employment
Employment as assistant professor is a 3-year temporary position. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
