Associate/Assistant Professor in Highway Engineering and Pavement Design

The Department of Civil Engineering (DTU Civil Engineering) invites applications for a position as Associate or Assistant Professor in Highway Engineering and pavement design which is part of the Section of Geotechnics and Geology. The Section of Geotechnics and Geology is one of six sections covering the main parts of civil engineering at DTU. The Section for Geotechnics and Geology also addresses road materials technology. Responsibilities and tasks The department is looking for a flexible and enthusiastic candidate, who will take part in building up a DTU pavements engineering platform for collaboration with road authorities and companies. In particular it is expected that the successful candidate will be able to contribute to research in one or more of the following areas: •Road Materials mechanical characterization; •Modelling of pavement materials and structures; •Recycling in pavement structures; Dissemination of research results is expected through scientific publications, interdisciplinary collaborative projects at national and international level and services to public administrations and the industry. Furthermore the candidate will be expected to seek and achieve external funding. The educational responsibilities include among other things class-room teaching, lecturing, examinations and supervision of individual- or group projects. Associate professors are also responsible for supervision of PhD-students and post docs and have administrative duties including academic assessment work on all levels. Assistant professors must follow compulsory DTU didactic/pedagogic training courses and also participate in supervision of PhD- students. The educational responsibilities will to the extent possible be related to the research focus area, however flexibility is required and it is expected that the candidate will be able to cover and contribute to a wide spectrum of topics both bachelor and master level. Please note that the expected teaching on bachelor level is required to be in Danish and on master level it is required to be in English. International candidates are required to take courses in Danish and teach in Danish after a short period. Qualifications Candidates for an •Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) within civil engineering and specialization in pavement design and pavement materials. •Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) within civil engineering and specialization in pavement design and pavement materials as well as have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship in pavement structures or highway engineering and should document didactic/pedagogic training. •All applicants must have a strong background in pavement materials characterization, modelling and mathematics.
