The Section of Mechanical Engineering, at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense is seeking to recruit an associate professor within the area of composite materials and unmanned aerial system (UAS) technology. Expected starting date: As soon as possible, not later than 1st January 2017, or soon thereafter. If you have a strong research and teaching background within the area of composite materials and UAS technology and you would like to join a dynamic education and research environment in close contact with industry, you are encouraged to apply. The Faculty hosts a new UAS research center and you will be part of the team implementing and operating the new composite innovation laboratory, supporting the UAS research and educational programme. The SDU UAS Center was established in 2015 and brings together experts in robotics, computer vision, physics, software engineering, mechanical engineering, and cyber-physical systems to focus on research, education, innovation, and collaboration in the UAS domain. We expect: • You have a relevant PhD or equivalent qualifications and international track record of research. • You can convey your knowledge in an educational manner. It is an advantage if you have experience in teaching in higher education. Applications must include a teaching portfolio. • You are fluent in English and have a willingness and ability to learn Danish. • You have an excellent national and international network and contact with industry for cooperation and projects. • Candidates with proven experience in obtaining external research funding and research based consultancy contracts with their university will be preferred. • Applications must include a proposed research plan and budget for a 3 to 5 year period as well as the plan to externally finance their research. • An application letter shall address personal motivation for applying to the specific position. We prefer: • Experience in aerostructures, aerodynamics, flight dynamics and control • Digital signal processing as it pertains to UAS communications and control • Experience with intelligent material systems and controls • Experience with composites for sensor and actuator applications • Experience with flight testing You will be evaluated by an international panel as qualified or not qualified with respect to this position. Only candidates assessed as qualified will come under further consideration. Candidates are expected to hold or be tenure-qualified at their University.
