SDU Life Cycle Engineering invites applications for an Associate Professor within the research field Material Flow Analysis and Waste and Resource Management. The starting date of the positions is October 1st, 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. A position as an Associate Professor position has no time of termination. SDU Life Cycle Engineering SDU Life Cycle Engineering is a self-governed centre within the Department of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Environmental Technology, Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark. The Centre is acknowledged for unique research in system analysis and systems integration, applying a holistic understanding and global view on the sustainable development, optimization and integration of key sectors such as agriculture, energy, industry and waste management under present and future framework conditions. The theory and methods of Energy System Analysis, Life Cycle Assessment, and Material Flow Analysis as well as economic and socio-economic assessment lie at the core of our research. Our research field was established at SDU in 2007. Since then, we have been steadily growing, and by 2016 we have achieved status as self-governed Centre, counting 15 researchers from 8 countries and about to expand again by opening 7 – 9 positions. We are predominantly externally funded and engaged in a large number of strategic research projects funded by a variety of sources from EU projects, national strategic research projects, sector research projects (e.g. the Danish EPA and Energy Agency) to private company projects and NGO projects. In our research, we collaborate with leading universities, centres and companies in Denmark, EU, USA, and Asia with project partners counting around 200 industrial partners, 100 university partners, and 40 authority and NGO partners since the establishment of our research group in 2007. Our education & teaching portfolio covers a broad range of technology and science courses related to these research areas. We are running our university’s Master program in Environmental Engineering and are strongly involved in both the Bachelor and Master programs on Energy Technology and on Integrated Design and Sustainable Product Development. Read more about us at http://www.sdu.dk/lifecycle The Associate Professor in Material Flow Analysis and Waste and Resource Management The associate professor is expected to: engage in and perform research of high international standard, manage and contribute to the further development of the waste & resource management area, play an active role in securing external funding, including both EU and Danish sources, publish in high level peer-reviewed academic journals as well as engage in other forms and levels of research dissemination, participate in teaching (including but not excluded to a course on Material Flow Analysis) and the development of new courses supervise or assist in the supervision of B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD students as required. The associate professor is, from the beginning of the employment, expected to be affiliated to the large portfolio of existing research projects on waste & resource management in the centre, including: MinFuture: A newly granted EU Horizon 2020 project on material stocks and flows including implications of emerging renewable energy technologies (no web site yet) INNOSORT: A large innovation consortium on waste sorting, our focus in the project being on end-of-life scenarios for electric and electronic products, including alternative automated sorting and dismantling operations and subsequent component and material recognition and sorting/separation.
