DTU Space seeks an associate professor in observational cosmology as part of the Division of Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics. At DTU Space, we have been involved in JWST both in providing hard ware for the mission and in setting up the High-z Universe part of the MIRI GTO program. This program contains both a MIRI Deep Imaging Survey and spectroscopy of selected high redshift objects within the Epoch of Reionization. 

Responsibilities and tasks
You are expected to contribute to

• Support the MIRI GTO program and expand it in the coming calls for JWST GO proposals
• Formulate and execute observational programs on the large observation facilities e.g. VLT, ALMA, HST, relevant for interpretation of the JWST observations
• Participate in the both national and international activities associated with the Cosmic Dawn Center of Excellence
• Teaching of bachelor and graduate students in the Earth and Space Physics and Engineering educational program of DTU Space
• Supervising of PhD students

Cosmic Dawn is a new international basic research center supported by the Danish National Research Foundation, dedicated to uncovering how and when the first galaxies, stars and black holes formed. Dawn is located at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen and at the Space Division of the Danish Technical University (DTU Space), and collaborates closely with associate institutions in North America, Europe and Australia.

DTU Space has been involved in the James Webb Space Telescope since 2003, mainly in the development of the Mid InfraRed Instrument MIRI and in the preparation of the MIRI Guaranteed Time Observations within the MIRI High – z Universe Working Group

Qualifications

• Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Associate Professorship
• Candidates must provide documentation for didactic/pedagogic training 
• The applicant must demonstrate a solid background in observational cosmology
• The applicant must demonstrate experience in formulating and executing programs on the large observing facilities e.g. VLT, ALMA, HST.
• The applicant must demonstrate experience in analyzing near/mid infrared observations, both imaging and spectroscopy

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

• Experience and quality of teaching
• Research impact and experience, funding track record, and research vision
• Societal impact
• Documented innovation activities, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
• International impact and experience
• Leadership potential and collaboration
• Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
