The team
You will become part of an autonomous SCRUM team of highly skilled cross-functional colleagues - all with insights about various aspects of our products, technologies and engineering practices.
We have end-to-end responsibility for the sourcing and buying processes, and we always search for new ways of creating value, while continually improving our existing solutions. At the moment, one of our primary focus areas is the re-engineering of some of our key processes with the purpose of making a significant leap in terms of business capabilities.
In BESTSELLER IT the atmosphere is more like that of a start-up than an IT department with hundreds of colleagues. We have rapid decision processes, there is room for experimenting with new technologies, and we move fast from idea to execution.
The job
As Backend Developer, your primary responsibility is to design, develop, deploy and operate software solutions based on functional requirements collected by the analysts in your team. You work either independently or in close collaboration with the software architect or senior developers.
We have a full-stack approach, so we hope you also have an interest in contributing to the frontend development, but you don't need to be an expert on the database layer; our strong in-house DBA team will support you on technical issues.
More specifically, your tasks include:
- Developing and maintaining business logic in our Java-based ERP-backend based on business requirements clarified by the analysts in your team
- Collaborating with the frontend developers to reduce complexity, maximize the robustness and thrill our end-users
- Testing and deployment.

As a person, you have a strong desire to learn and understand new technologies. Qualifications
- You have a strong stack record within backend development, but front-end development is not completely new to you
- You demonstrate a passion for developing existing systems as well as bringing in new technologies
- You are very familiar within Java and, most importantly, you are object-oriented and organise your code in a logical structure to ensure optimal conditions for maintenance and reusability
- You have experience with Java/Springboot, microservices architecture, BFF, BitBucket, CircleCI, YAML and NodeJS
- If you've also dabbled with ReactJS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, CSS and HTML, you'll really get us going - but it's not a requirement
- You don't need to know about SCRUM - we will get you there, when you join us on our agile journey.
