About the department The department, Diabetes Cultivation Development, is anchored in Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Development in Research & Development. The department is responsible for process development of new drug substance candidates for the entire diabetes development portfolio at Novo Nordisk. This includes microbial cultivation (yeast and Escherichia coli) and the initial recovery processes. We focus on innovation to develop robust processes that delivers high quality. We do so in close collaboration with the research units as well as the pilot facilities, who are manufacturing the proteins used for toxicological and clinical trials. Moreover, the department is responsible for producing and maintaining cell banks for clinical trials and marketed products under GMP. The department’s facilities include a development laboratory, a cultivation mini pilot and a cell bank GMP facility. The department consists of two teams and you will be Development Scientist in the team responsible for cultivation process development. The department is located in Bagsværd, Copenhagen, Denmark. The position Our work is based on interdisciplinary collaboration. You will be involved in the scientific collaborations across the organisation and in projects where you will bring your scientific expertise into play. You will be a part of a skilled group of fermentation specialists, scientists, and technicians that work with up-scaling of fermentation processes and initial recovery steps. Your main task will be to provide scientific expertise, primarily within yeast fermentation technology, by developing robust and high yielding fermentations processes. You will plan, evaluate and report experimental work in the laboratory both independently, and in close collaboration with colleagues. An important part of your job will be to support process transfers from laboratory to pilot- and production scale. You will support pilot- and production plants during production, and take process knowledge back to the development work. Qualifications You hold a PhD and/or a Master degree as Chemical Engineer, Pharmacist, Cand. Scient or similar. Ideally you have a background within the field of fermentation technology and cell biology and have excellent theoretical and practical skills within yeast/E. coli physiology and fermentation technologies. You are further familiar with state-of-the art cultivation systems/bioreactors, downscale models and have knowledge about initial recovery processes. As a person you are a team-player and used to work in complex projects with cross-functional area impact. You possess coordination skills and find it a motivating to drive projects with inter-disciplinary tasks in the role as a coordinator. You have got excellent communication skills and use these to interact with colleagues and internal and external stakeholders.
