Economic and Social Rights Program Officer at EuroMed Rights

EuroMed Rights is looking to recruit a skilled and motivated Economic and Social Rights Program Office (Eco-Soc PO) to join its Program Department, under an unlimited duration contract.

 

EuroMed Rights will in 2019 initiate a regional project on economic and social rights. It aims at strengthening relations between human rights organisations/civil societies, including social movements in the EuroMed region, and at promoting social and economic rights by monitoring the human rights impact of economic and financial relations between the EU and the South Mediterranean countries and developing human rights policies in this regard. 

 

Description of Task

 

The Eco-Soc PO will work under the supervision of the Program Director; he/she will undertake the following tasks:

 

Programme development and implementation

• Develop and ensure the timely planning, implementation, evaluation and follow up of EuroMed Rights economic and social rights programme
• Ensure proper financial management of budgets, including financial reporting for the economic and social rights program in cooperation with the Financial department and contract manager
• Represent EuroMed Rights on economic and social rights upon delegation by the management

• Supervise possible assistants/interns, take part in their recruitment, assign them with tasks and evaluate their performance;

 

Networking and alliance-building

• Ensure contacts with EuroMed Rights members on a regular basis on issues pertaining to economic and social rights
• Maintain and develop contact with other non-governmental and international, regional, national organisations and actors on issues pertaining to economic and social rights.

 

Information gathering and sharing

• Monitor the situation of economic and social rights in the Euro-Med region, including the implementation of the European Neighbourhood Policy and other EU policies in this regard
• Coordinate and prepares research, press releases and recommendations on issues related to economic and social rights in the Euro-Mediterranean region

 

Advocacy and communication

• Propose, develop and implement EuroMed Rights advocacy and communication strategies on economic and social rights in coordination with the Advocacy and Communication Directors, including through organising advocacy missions, drafting research paper, press releases and other publications

 

Solidarity

• Monitor situations where EuroMed Rights members or partners and their work within the field of gender equality and women’s rights are at risk and suggests and implements solidarity activities (missions, alerts, etc.) in this regard.

Gender Mainstreaming

• Apply EuroMed Rights gender mainstreaming policy to the above activities.

 

Profile, skills and background

 

• University degree in economics, law, human rights or political/social science. Other similar qualifications may also be considered.
• At least two years of work experience in the protection of human rights, preferably with economic and social rights and proven track record of project management, including budget monitoring.
• Experience in working with civil society and human rights NGOs, ideally in the Mediterranean region.
• Sound knowledge of the functioning of the EU institutions, UN mechanisms and human rights standards;
• Ability to be clear and concise in written and oral communication, including in public; ability to manage relations with tact and diplomacy;
• Self-motivated, well-organised, keen attention to details, able to work independently and efficiently, including under pressure;
• Languages: Fluency in English and French oral and written) is imperative. Knowledge of Arabic will be considered an asset;
• Computer literacy (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required).
