Job Description

You lead Managers and Supervisors and manages all aspects of manufacturing scheduling and materials management activities for the site (i.e., single point of contact for all site planning functions). Materials management and scheduling activities include Warehouse operations, Large Scale Manufacturing and Assembly Label & Pack.

In addition, you are responsible for managing the inventory control system including raw materials, API/Drug Substance, Drug Product and Finished Goods. You will direct warehouse activities (including shipping, receiving, inter-site transfers, and storage) and oversee Materials Planning and Warehouse Management Systems. You ensure that manufacturing Bill of materials are accurate to support proper procurement of raw materials needed for LSM and AL&P manufacturing campaigns. 

You will also be responsible for the excess, expired, and obsolete (E&O) inventory process and analyze inventory trends and bill of material variances to reduce the risk of E&O inventory, as well as manage the production supplies budget forecasting process for the site. You collaborate with counterparts across the supply chain network regarding production scheduling and raw materials strategies includes E&O mitigation and sharing of best practices. 

You work in a matrix organization reporting in a dotted line to the Site Leaders and is the first point of contact to the HIL Site Manufacturing Operations Leadership team.

Principal Responsibilities
• Oversees, plans, and leads all activities related to the development of the HIL Site Manufacturing Schedule, including scenario planning for alternative options related to production planning. Communicates and collaborates with Site Management and Global Planning counterparts to ensure alignment and feasibility of the production schedules for the manufacturing operations. Provides input into the Annual Operations Planning process. Develops and integrates E2E planning standards into the site scheduling standards. Works with counterparts across Sites to develop optimal Materials Management, Warehouse operations and scheduling business processes to ensure uninterrupted supply to Mfg Operations and the supply chain. 
• Directs activities of Managers/Supervisors within the Materials Management and Scheduling department in core tactical operations. Manages support of the technical transfer process and is responsible for ensuring that the raw material needs for the LSM and AL&P manufacturing campaigns are met. Oversees the development, maintenance and analysis of manufacturing bills of material for all site programs. Responsible for the planning and inventory control of the raw material and work in process inventory at the HIL site utilizing relevant ERP systems. Responsible for reducing the risk of excess, expired, and obsolete raw material inventory and oversees the HIL site E&O process. 
• Participates on strategy-related and/or process improvement teams as required. Supports the identification, development, and implementation of improvement opportunities through performance measurement and analysis using proven process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) to deliver business results in areas of customer satisfaction, quality, reliability, productivity, and safety. 
• Manages the following: 1) Development and maintenance of accurate budget forecasting tools/models for determining annual budget targets for HIL Materials Management & Scheduling, as well as quarterly re-forecasting processes; and 2) Management of the budget effectively by understanding the areas of responsibility and the forces that drive the budget.

Qualifications

You have 10 to 12 years relevant experience and/or training in a GMP regulated industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience, as well as 5 years of people management experience.

You have detailed knowledge of most areas of the company’s business and functional groups and essential understanding of relevant industry issues. You possess In-depth knowledge of best practices in a defined area of expertise. 

Skills:
• Working knowledge of materials and supply chain management.
• Strong knowledge in inventory management systems. Working knowledge of ERP systems is essential.
• Proven effectiveness in managing a team, as well as communicating and collaboration cross functions and with staff at all levels.
• Must be team-oriented (proactively builds healthy working relationships between their team/function and other groups).
• Has strong leadership skills and has excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills.
• Possesses strong manufacturing process knowledge and analytical skills to solve complex problems.
• Possesses an in-depth understanding of inventory planning and control processes, as well as Warehouse Operations.
• Possesses excellent project management skills.
• Has a broad knowledge of other operations areas such as Manufacturing, Quality, Manufacturing Sciences, Procurement, and Regulatory.
• Demonstrated servant leadership skills.
• Extensive experience with team/operational excellence
• Ability to travel on occasion to other Biogen sites for collaboration, support, and training

Education

Minimum Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering, Business, Finance or other related field; an advanced degree is strongly preferred (MS/MBA).
