In the newly established role as Head of Sustainability you will be responsible for shaping, implementing and executing an impactful response to our value proposition as delivering sustainable solutions to the mining and cement industry.

 

More business at less cost to the environment
In FLSmidth we deliver sustainable productivity to our customers – reducing their emissions and the consumption of fresh water while meeting the growing demand for cement and minerals. Demand for cement has gone up by more than 180 percent in the past 20 years. As more people have lifted themselves out of extreme poverty, the need for proper housing, roads, ports and airports has gone up.

Demand for minerals has surged as well, as smart phones, computers, electric vehicles, renewable energy solutions and vast numbers of other devices based on minerals like copper, gold and lithium have become global necessities.

Greater scarcity of resources such as energy, water, and raw materials – along with declining ore grades and stricter regulations – lead to more complex and costly operations.

Tapping into these growth opportunities for the cement and mining industries needs leadership and management.

 

Your key responsibilities will be to

• Drive the Group’s sustainability strategy by appraising the current state and working closely with key internal stakeholders
• Through strong communication and change management skills, develop structured and relevant initiatives
• In collaboration with relevant cross functional groups, drive, monitor and report on our initiatives
• Ensure common understanding and implementation of a global framework, including tools, templates, instructions and document management related to sustainability across the Group
• Support the improvement of processes and systems which impact our initiatives within sustainability
• Drive the production of our annual reporting on sustainability
• Act as internal knowledge resource on issues related to sustainability and advise key stakeholders
• You will be working out of our head office in Valby, Denmark, heading a small team of you and a sustainability manager, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Communications, Marketing and Sustainability, and should anticipate approx. 20-30 travels days per year.

 

What is needed to succeed?
In addition to having a solid and relevant theoretical background, at master’s level, you should have 5-8 years of experience from working in a global environment. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of practical experience within the field of sustainability and engineering while founded in a strong business understanding. You find an inner ignition in strategic matters but also take great pride in being the executing project manager of concrete sustainability initiatives and daily administrative tasks. You are a natural networker and intuitively know when, what and how to influence – all on a backbone of good communication and stakeholder management skills, allowing you to work on all levels of a global organisation. Additionally, you manoeuvre easily in a multicultural atmosphere and understand the complexity of working in a corporate and changing environment.

 

About the team
You will join a dedicated Communications, Marketing and Sustainability team in the Group’s head office. The sustainability team consists of two people – you and the sustainability manager of witch you will take daily leadership responsibility. Your extended team are key stakeholders within the organisation from e.g. GPLM, HR, Legal, Procurement, and QHSE. We are accelerating our focus on sustainability and have important tasks ahead of us and are therefore expanding the department with this position
