In Grundfos, we have a more than 30 years of experience in award winning and user focused industrial design of our products. We see design as one of our main differentiators in offering high-end products to the market. As our new Industrial Designer, you will play a key role in creating products for Grundfos where functionality and form support each other, and the design is a part of early conceptualisation where your innovations will influence Grundfos’ future products and design. You join the international Research & Technology department and 6 colleagues in the Design & Software Concepts team. We are responsible for the form, design and user interface design related to all Grundfos products. You become part of a small team responsible for the shaping of the products, and you will also work in various project teams for our different products. You refer to Manager, Peter Bertelsen. ”The team works closely with both Technical and Business Development, and our focus is on early development and learning. We need to create more solutions than what is needed in order to make room for play, experimentation and learning and keep creativity flowing. Aside from working with your team, you will also gain an international network, as you will work with developers in Hungary, China and the US,” explains Peter. What is the job about? You will be responsible for industrial design of our products in close collaboration with user experience and user interface designers as part of different product development teams. You get to work on different stages of the product’s lifetime starting with the early concept phase where you deliver industrial design according to our design strategy. In these teams, you are in close dialogue with our engineers to ensure that technology and function come together in the design. You are also part of the actual product development phase in project teams consisting of colleagues within mechanics, hydraulics and electronics where you manage the design to develop concrete solutions for our products. Moreover, you police and further develop our strategic design direction, coordinate and conduct usability tests and develop concepts and rapid prototyping. “To succeed in this role, you need to be a great communicator who can advocate for our brand strategy. Being part of different project teams, you will get a lot of information and opinions – often contradictory – and so your challenge will be to present valuable arguments in support of design in order to maintain Grundfos’ high-end brand awareness,” says Peter. What do you need to apply? You have a degree within Industrial or Product Design and a few years of experience from working with industrial design. Moreover, you have experience with 3D and 2D sketching and modelling tools such as Rhino, Solid Works, and Adobe Creative Suite, and it is a plus if you have experience with or knowledge of digital interface design. “On a personal level, you are outgoing and enjoy working in an open office environment where sparring is on-going throughout the day. Also, you are a strong communicator who is able to communicate not only verbally but also through sketches and concepts to secure our design strategy. And finally, you have a holistic mind-set, enabling you to understand technology and design synergies,” finishes Peter.
