We are looking for a backend Java developer with experience in developing low latency and high-performance software to join our e-FX Development team. You will be responsible for improving and evolving several of our core pricing and algorithmic trading systems as well as taking part in new projects. This is an opportunity for you to work on state-of-the-art systems to meet new challenges in a fast-paced business. Nordea handles a significant volume of the Scandinavian FX market, and our pricing, execution and automated risk management systems are, as a result, dealing with very large volumes of data and reacting to them in real-time. This poses unique and interesting developer challenges.

The offer 

The e-FX Development team is responsible for in-house applications related to the FX trading business. This involves implementing algorithmic solutions for low latency trading, automated hedging and order management as well as handling integration to trading venues, professional clients and third-party applications. 

Everything we do is in close collaboration with the business, algo quants and third-party system engineers. 

What you’ll be doing:  

  • Hands on design, development, testing of server-side services and applications related to pricing and risk management
  • Analyzing and optimizing existing as well as new applications
  • Work collaboratively with the trading desk and help drive the technology requirements
  • Meeting deadlines and delivering results to the business and to the rest of the team is paramount, as is having a strong sense of ownership and commitment
  • Work closely with colleagues in the e-FX area including both business and IT teams

  • Proactive, detail-oriented and comfortable working in dynamic environments with fast paced deliveries and changing requirements
  • Curious and collaborative, comfortable working independently, as well as in a team
  • Strong server-side Java development skill (Java 8+), including expertise in multi-threaded performance critical programming with excellent design and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with code and JVM performance analysis and optimization
  • Strong core low-latency development experience, ideally within a micro-service architecture: comfortable with threading, inter-process communication, garbage collection
  • Hands-on experience in building distributed systems and/or Java messaging technologies
  • Experience with client-server messaging formats (e.g. Aeron, FIX, Protobuf) 
  • Cater for non-functional requirements including stability, manageability, scalability, capacity and performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and ability to work as part of a team

Desired skills – not a must:

  • Finance knowledge, especially FX products
  • Experience building electronic trading systems
