The Department of Science and Environment (INM) is seeking a highly motivated lab-coordinator to become a part of the analytical service group. The section is equipped with UHPLC-MS and nano HPLC-MS instrumentation for analysis of small molecules, peptides and proteins. This section aims to implement innovative methodologies for research in proteomics in the field of diverse biological sciences (e.g. molecular biology, microbiology, environmental biology etc.). The successful candidate will work on projects in the field of proteomic analysis, and assist in method development, automation and computational biology.

The position is for full time employment.

Responsibilities and tasks
The main focus of the positions covers the following topics:

• Assist and improve the analytical service group at the institute.
• Develop and implement protocols to analyze compounds from complex mixtures and biological samples using HPLC–MS and other separation techniques
• Work closely with academic staff at the department to assist in project development in the fields of proteomics, peptides and protein science.

In addition to the above, we expect the successful candidate to

• provide input to guide method development for proteomic analysis
• train, supervise and motivate colleagues in all aspects of instrument operation
• assist with student projects and laboratory relevant courses in chemistry

Furthermore, it is expected that the successful candidate actively engages in collaborations with other sections at the Department of Science and Environment. The position is closely connected with the proteomic research at the section for molecular and medical biology in the department. Therefore, a very close interaction with colleagues working on compound isolation, method development, characterization, bioinformatics analysis etc., of new biomolecules is essential.

Qualifications
Candidates must

• Hold a MSc degree (or equivalent) and preferably a PhD.

Mandatory requirements

• Extensive knowledge of analytical chemistry
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with high performance liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) instrumentation on peptides and proteins (nano-HPLC-MS).
• Demonstrated experience with sample preparation for proteomic analysis.
• Demonstrated experience in purification and characterization of proteins.
• Practical, hands-on experience with robotics and automation
• Demonstrated experience providing scientific input on research development and achieving milestones on time

In the assessment of each candidate consideration will be given to:

• Research impact and vision, and hands-on experience with HPLC-MS
• Interdisciplinary collaboration
• Service-mindedness – it is essential to understand how education and research are supported
• Curiosity – and ability to implement ideas
• Independence – being able to take action with little supervision
• Ability to manage an overview of the field and complex processes and being able to handle stressful situations
• Communication skills - with colleagues and students
• Interpersonal skills - know how to be a good colleague
