We are looking for a laboratory engineer with flair for hands-on work with scientific instruments. Your chief responsibility will be to maintain and use specialized experimental equipment. The instruments are used for physico-chemical analysis in research and teaching performed at the highest level.

We require a super user with great experimental and technical skills is to optimize the usage of our experimental facilities, to introduce the equipment to new users, to implement correct usage to minimize down time and expensive repairs, to perform calibrations, to perform general maintenance, and to be in contact with technical support of instrument suppliers.

Responsibilities and tasks
You will:
  • Be responsible for various experimental equipment: X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD), Asymmetric Flow Field Flow Fractionation (AF4), Static Light Scattering (SLS), Chromatography (GC, GC-MS, HPLC)
  • Introduce these experimental techniques to new users
  • Take part in discussions on new experimental designs and protocols
  • Troubleshoot or contact technical support in case of instrumental failure
  • Develop protocols for 'good practice' when using these instruments
  • Perform daily maintenance and keep the instrumentation operational
  • Calibrate instruments when needed
  • Occasionally perform measurements for users from the department and external costumers

Qualifications
We are looking for an engineer, or similar, who has great interest in experimental analytical chemistry, who likes technical challenges, who is self-driven and takes initiative, and who has curiosity towards learning to operate and understand complex experimental techniques used for chemical analysis. Practical experience with one or more of the above-mentioned techniques will be an advantage but is not a requirement since relevant training will be offered.

We are further looking for a person who:
  • Has good basic knowledge within chemistry and physics
  • Has practical experience with different instrumental analytic methods within experimental chemistry or physics
  • Is service-minded, flexible, and thrive by conveying knowledge and good practices to others
  • Has a positive mindset and very good planning, prioritizing, and organizational skills
  • Has working skills in both written and spoken English

DTU Chemistry is a department with the overall mission of contributing to research, development and education within organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. The Department has 160 employees including around 30 faculty members, 30 technical and administrative staff members, and 100 postdocs and PhD students. Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
