In order to increase the focus on bringing innovative and competitive technologies and concepts to the market even faster, a new function - Innovation & Concepts (I & C) - with reference directly to CTO has been established. Below position belongs to the Concept Development part of this set-up; a set-up that also has the role to enable Vestas to determine at an earlier stage if a newly developed technology is the right way to go. Vestas Mechanical Engineer, Concept Development Concept Development is responsible for identifying potential impact and reducing uncertainties of new unproven technologies through numerical and physical validation and for execution of alternative concept development projects in cross functional teams highly leveraged with external partners. Responsibilities: In this position we expect that you will possess and continuously develop a profound understanding of the key static and kinematic functions in a turbine product – their performance criteria, concepts, components, dimension criteria, history and total costs. You must have the ability to fully understand the function of an alternative or existing mechanical concept and its role in the product and its operation based on verbal descriptions, scale models and sketches. Additionally you must fully understand (based on a sketch dialogue with stakeholders) the functional and physical constraints which/that the mechanical concepts will be exposed to during full life time operation and through the value chain and quantify in rough terms how these parameters will impact the mechanical concept. You will be responsible for conceptualizing the concept in the optimal physical or numerical form and produce models in CAD with an adequate level of details depending on the stage of development You must together with concept leads be able to conceptualize functions in any part of the turbine irrespective of the involved materials (metal, plastic, composites or others….). You will be responsible for conceptualizing the concept in the optimal physical or numerical form and produce skeleton-based and scalable models in 3D CAD with an adequate level of details depending on the stage of development. Finally you will support preparation of the model for static and dynamic numerical analysis. You will not least visit factories, test centers, field turbines to instruct on instrumentation of the existing and new concepts to validate models, monitor performance and behavior. Qualifications: You have a relevant Technical degree within the area of Mechanical Engineering You possess the skills corresponding to the Danish term “konstruktør” You have more than 10 years of experience from mechanical design within heavy machinery and motion mechanics/large kinematic equipment (i.e. robotics, motors, advanced machinery/cranes or caterpillars, wind turbines…) combined with experience from R&D organizations or consultancy You have been exposed to a variety of engineering disciplines and competencies and followed a number of products from early idea to market introduction You have proven experience in managing tasks or sub-projects in cross-functional international organizations preferably across multiple sites Competencies: Being intuitive, creative, imaginative and curious Working theoretical, conceptual, pragmatic, practically Good at seeing opportunities and identifying risks Seeing patterns and connections not obvious to others Working independent, enthusiastic, assertive and outspoken Do not seek to fail, but can easily live with the “humiliation” of having been enthusiastic on something that appears impossible for now What we offer: We offer a challenging workplace with excellent professional and personal development opportunities in an inspiring, international work environment with the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturer and extensive interaction with other institutions and companies.
