Background
The National high-Throughput DNA Sequencing Centre is located at the City Campus in central Copenhagen. The Sequencing Centre is embedded in the Lundbeck Foundation Centre for GeoGenetics (LFCGG), headed by Prof. Eske Willerslev, which has been a world leading research group in ancient genomics for the last 10 years. The Sequencing Centre provide high-throughput sequencing services (MiSeq, HiSeq, NovaSeq) and is an integral part of the ancient DNA (aDNA) research of the LFCGG and other.
The LFCGG at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Biology is recruiting a medical laboratory technologist for 4 years and 10 months from 1 June 2019.
The position
The LFCGG offers a busy and stimulating working environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong tradition for collaboration. We are employing a qualified, highly motivated and committed full-time medical laboratory technologist at the LFCGG.
The position is divided evenly between running Illumina sequencing instruments including QC and preparation in Sequencing Centre (50%), and preparation of samples and sequencing libraries in our dedicated ancient DNA clean laboratory facility (50%). The work is conducted in close collaboration with the staff in the Sequencing Centre and other scientific staff members at LFCGG.

In The National high-throughput Sequencing Centre
- Sequencing of DNA libraries on Illumina NovaSeq6000, HiSeq and MiSeq instruments.
- Quality control, qPCR of sequencing libraries.
- Handling of sequencing orders.
- Participation in the daily operation of the general lab facility.
- Follow the technological development.
In the LFCGG aDNA clean laboratory facility
- Preparation of ancient samples for DNA analysis.
- Participation in extraction of ancient DNA and library prep using manual and automated procedures.
- Participation in the daily operation of the aDNA clean laboratory facility.
- Ad hoc participation in the scientific activities and meetings of the group.
Qualifications
- Education as medical laboratory technologist
- Documented experience with qPCR and Illumina NovaSeq, Hiseq and MiSeq sequencing.
- Solid experience with molecular biology, preferably within forensics, or aDNA.
- Experience with ancient DNA lab or clean room work, robotics and automization.
- An independent, rational and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.
- Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English and (optionally) Danish.
Terms of employment and payment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and The Confederation of Teachers Unions and CO10 - the Danish confederation of public employees of 2010 and by the Professional Agreement covering medical laboratory technicians in the state.
Salary according to qualifications and current professional agreement covering medical laboratory technologist in the state.
