Quantitative Modelling of Cell Metabolism (QMCM) is a new section at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain), headed by Professor Lars Keld Nielsen and supported by a seven year Novo Nordisk Foundation Laureate Research Grant. In QMCM, we focus on developing mathematical models to explore and explain the molecular basis for homeostasis – the self-regulating processes evolved to maintain metabolic equilibrium in organisms.
QMCM in conjunction with the analytical core facility and the automation group is seeking a skilled analytical chemist for high-throughput, quantitative metabolomics. The analytical core facility uses a suite of mass spectrometers with GC or LC separation to provide a full range of analytical services, including targeted analysis, metabolomics, compound identification, proteomics and glycan analysis. Automation is responsible for automating workflows from sample collection until fully processed data are presented to the end-user.

We are currently purchasing three new mass spectrometers and automation solutions to dramatically accelerate sample throughput.

Job abstractJV_description
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for providing high-throughput quantitative metabolomics analyses to biological researchers. Assays will include targeted metabolomics and flux analysis using both LC-MS and GC-MS. The successful candidate will be involved in communicating with users, participation in experimental design, sample preparation, Instrument analysis, data interpretation, and instrument management. Related responsibilities will include optimization of assays, development of new analytical assays, and monitoring pertinent scientific literature. 
The candidate is expected to closely collaborate with other groups, both within the center and externally. The appointee will be responsible for the daily operation of the unit under supervision of the head of analytics. Key responsibilities will include: 

• Automation of processes (sample preparation, data acquirement and –processing)
• GC-MS and LC-MS method development and validation
• Writing and maintaining SOPs
• Setting up protocols and training other personnel to the highest standards
• Coordinating the work undertaken by QMCM with CfB and others
• Preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication
• Proactively helping other team members within the analytical core

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have: 

• Significant experience working in a relevant environment, preferably with a solid analytical chemistry background
• Significant experience in metabolomics analysis
• Proven experience in chromatography method development, instrument maintenance, mass spectrometry & high throughput analysis
• Experience with sample preparation for metabolomics
• Enthusiasm for working on workflow automation
• Capable of working on their own initiative when appropriate
• Proven ability to work creatively in a team environment (including multi-disciplinary environment)
• Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills
• Strong oral and written skills  in English
• Flexibility, enthusiasm, responsibility, team spirit and excellent collaboration skills.
• Computer proficiency (MS office) and Experience in reporting in lab notebooks and/or LIMS systems.

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and take into account the qualifications and experience of the candidate. Start date soonest possible.
