PhD in modelling Macroeconomic Effects of Energy Savings

DTU Management invites applicants for a PhD in macroeconomic modelling of energy demand and energy saving investment. The 3-year PhD project in the Systems Analysis Division is part of the SAVE-E project funded by Innovation Fund Denmark. The research project running 2015-2018 will examine energy-saving solutions including the macroeconomic impacts of investments in energy savings. The PhD will work together with the SAVE-E team including a second PhD student associated with the macroeconomic energy modelling of SAVE-E and 3 other PhD students. Responsibilities and tasks The research will be focused on modelling the investment in energy technology and capital for the Danish industry and households and the PhD can work on some or all of the following tasks: •Model and analyse macroeconomic effects of energy saving investment •Develop/extend a model that incorporates different types of capital equipment with regard to energy technology/substitutability •Examine the options for implementing alternative behavioural assumptions in household saving investment •Evaluate the findings of other WP's in SAVE-E for inclusion in the macroeconomic specification •Econometric analysis of macro- and sector level energy demand •Analysis of different scenarios for the extent of investments in energy savings and energy system technologies as well as a number of policy instruments The research will require competences within macroeconomic modelling, econometrics and interest to work with energy and environmental economics. As part of the Ph.D. project the student is expected to contribute to teaching at the M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy at DTU. The PhD project will be carried out under the supervision of Professor MSO Henrik Klinge Jacobsen and Professor Mark Jaccard, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver. Qualifications The applicant should have a degree within Economics or mathematical Economics. Good theoretical background is expected and applied experience within general equilibrium models and/or econometrics is an advantage. Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
