PhD position for IFD project "HealthDrone" on robotics engineering with application to Unmanned Aerial Systems

The Unmanned Aerial System Center (UAS) at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at SDU is offering a PhD position starting from 1. September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The PhD candidate will work on the HealthDrone project recently funded by Innovation Fund Denmark (see https://healthdrone.dk).

The research activities will be focusing on systematic approaches to Unmanned Aerial Systems for logistics operations. Key topics include reusable software and embedded hardware for safe and reliable UAS autonomous flight, associated UAS ground infrastructure, and UAS operation risk assessment. The resulting capabilities should be empirically assessed in the context of the HealthDrone project. 

The successful candidates are expected to have:

1. Master's degree (equivalent to a Danish master's degree) in UAS, mobile robotics, embedded systems, or related fields.
2. Strong background in UAS technology and experience with system integration and UAS applications.
3. Good programming skills (C++, Python, ROS)

 Additionally, the candidate should have excellent writing skills and be able to work independently. The ideal candidate also has some experience in UAS risk assessments (SORA). The successful candidate for the position will be affiliated with the UAS center at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, the University of Southern Denmark.
