PhD scholarship in Collective Physics in Engineered Electromagnetic Environments

The Nanophotonics section at DTU Fotonik researches light-matter interaction in nanostructures and applications to integrated photonics and quantum information technology. We are seeking candidates for a three-year PhD position financed by Villum Fonden through the NATEC Centre of Excellence. Expected starting date is October/November 2015. Responsibilities and tasks The candidate will investigate collective dynamics of quantum emitters in structured electromagnetic environments, for example superradiance of quantum dots in photonic-crystal membranes. The importance of collective effects in existing structures will be investigated, and new structures will be proposed where collective effects are especially pronounced. Implications of superradiance for the quantum noise of ultra-small lasers will also be investigated. The project will take place in close collaboration with related experimental activities at DTU Fotonik and other groups in Europe. The department has state-of-the-art nanofabrication technology and experimental characterization facilities and the project is expected to provide input to the interpretation of experimental results and identification of new and interesting nanophotonic structures. The candidate is therefore expected to be team-oriented and to communicate well with experimental colleagues. Qualifications We seek enthusiastic and talented candidates (M/F) who have successfully completed a Master in Theoretical Physics or a related field. Demonstrated affinity with theoretical research and numerical computations will be advantageous.
