PhD scholarship in Development of Nanomaterial-based Biosensors

A PhD position is upon in the Section of Experimental and Translational Immunology (xTIM), Division of Biopharma, Dept. of Health Technology, at the Technical University of Denmark.

In the Section of Experimental and Translational Immunology, we are focusing on understanding immune regulation, recognitions and signaling to unravel disease mechanism, and translate immunological finding into therapeutic strategies via design of nanomaterial to actively engage or manipulate the immune system. Also we are working on biosensors to effective readout hazardous substances.

The present project will be conducted in the research group 'Nanomaterials and Nanobiosensors', under supervision of Associate Professor Yi Sun.

The Nanomaterials and Nanobiosensors group at DTU HealthTech invites applications for one PhD position focusing on developing advanced nanomaterial-based biosensors.

Detection of hazardous substances such as heavy metals in water is highly important for assessing the quality of groundwater and water resources. This project aims to develop portable and robust nanomaterial-based biosensors that can rapidly, sensitively and precisely screen analytes of interest for water monitoring.

Responsibilities and tasks

The main tasks include: (1) synthesizing nanomaterial-based biomimetic receptors for both small molecules and macromolecules; (2) characterizing physical and chemical properties of nanomaterials; (3) developing nanomaterial-based electrochemical biosensors; and (4) implementing biosensors for on-site water testing.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

The successful applicant should have a strong background in material science, electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, or related disciplines, with solid skills in nanomaterial synthesis and characterization. Experiences with electro-polymerization or molecularly imprinted polymers will be considered as an advantage. The candidate should demonstrate evidence of self-driven and independent research capability, excellent collaboration and communication skills, an interest in working in an interdisciplinary research environment, and a strong motivation to succeed within a competitive research field.

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.

The position will be based at the DTU Lyngby Campus, Denmark.
