DTU Food invites applications for a PhD scholarship in source attribution modelling. The PhD fellow will be affiliated with the team of epidemiologists and risk modellers in the research group for Genomic Epidemiology. Research in the group is focused on the evolution, epidemiology and persistence of infectious agents, including zoonoses, antimicrobial resistant bacteria and food and waterborne transmitted pathogens. Responsibilities and tasks The PhD project is part of a Horizon 2020 research project called COMPARE (http://www.compare-europe.eu/) aiming to speed up the detection of and response to disease outbreaks among humans and animals worldwide through the use of next generation sequencing (NGS) techniques. The specific objectives of the PhD project are: •To develop mathematical models and tools for source attribution based on NGS based routine surveillance and outbreak data for food-borne pathogens. This will be accomplished by applying, analysing and comparing data collected from different sources (humans, animals, food and environment) that have been processed using various bioinformatics tools. •To contribute to the development of risk-based sampling schemes for surveillance, outbreak investigation and source attribution. Qualifications Candidates should have a master's degree in life sciences or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with: •Experience in interpreting and analysing WGS (whole genome sequencing) data from infectious microorganisms, and/or •Skills in infectious disease and/or source attribution modelling. Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
