DTU Danchip/DTU Cen invites highly motivated and talented candidates to apply for a number of vacant PhD scholarships. DTU Danchip/DTU Cen offers a number of PhD scholarships within advanced micro/nano-fabrication and in-situ electron based high-resolution microscopy and materials analysis. DTU Danchip, the National Center for Micro- and Nanofabrication, and DTU Cen, the Center for Electron Nanoscopy host the most advanced and well-equipped laboratories in Denmark within their respective areas. The main focus in the projects will be on developing and understanding new processing and materials characterization capabilities exploring and expand the current state of these research areas. The PhD projects are offered within the main research areas of DTU Danchip/Cen and combinations thereof: •Thin film technology – including physical vapour deposition (PVD), chemical vapour deposition (CVD), atomic layer deposition (ALD/PEALD) •Advanced dry etching technology – including Chlorine/Bromine and Fluorine based high-density plasma etching (ICP-RIE), chemical-assisted ion beam etching (CAIBE) •Structural characterization of thin films by means of transmission electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction. •Mapping of magnetic properties and electrostatic potentials at high spatial resolution of nanomaterials by means of electron holography. •Dynamic structure-functionality relationships of nanomaterials by means of environmental electron microscopy. We have strong cross-disciplinary collaborations within DTU, with leading international universities and facilities, and with private companies. Starting date is flexible, but no later than November 2015. Qualifications Successful candidates should have or soon obtain a master's degree in physics, material science, inorganic chemistry, chemical engineering, micro and nano-engineering, electrical engineering, MEMS engineering, or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering. Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
