Behavioral Responses to Health Innovations and the Consequences for Socioeconomic Outcomes

The Department of Economics invites for applications for one or more Post Doc positions. The positions will have a duration of two or three years. Employment is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The Post Doc positions are offered in connection with the project “Behavioral Responses to Health innovations and the Consequences for Socioeconomic Outcomes”, financed by a grant from Novo Nordisk Fonden. The overall project aims at providing a better understanding of the main drivers of inequality in health and its correlation with socioeconomic outcomes. A leading hypothesis is that richer and better-educated people are faster at adopting new technologies. The increasing pace of medical innovations thus disproportionally benefits the educated and widens the socioeconomic gap in health. The project asks three main questions: 1) How do health innovations transmit into economic outcomes? 2) How do innovations and behavior shape the income gradient in mortality? 3) Which mechanisms explain the education-health gradient?

The project involves a group of researchers from the Department of Economics at UCPH in collaboration with international researchers. The project will entail both survey data collection on patient and physician behavior and empirical analyses using Danish survey and register data. The department is looking for excellent candidates who have a strong background in economics and expertise with econometric methods.

Qualifications
Employment as Post Doc at the Department of Economics, University of Copenhagen, requires a PhD degree in economics.

Salary and conditions of employment
Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary for postdoctoral researchers is within the range DKK 403.200 – 424.500 (about EUR 54,000 – 57,000). In addition to the salary paid directly to you, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to your pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of your salary. A postdoctoral position is a fixed-term academic position. Of the three years, two are fully financed by the grant, and entirely weighted towards research. One year is financed by the department and carries teaching obligations corresponding to a regular teaching load for a year.

All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert assessment committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
