Postdoc in Data Science and Modeling for Mammalian Metabolism

The position will be in the Data Science and Automation unit at DTU Biosustain. The unit has both a research component in modelling and data science and core service component in next generation sequencing, data science infrastructure and automation. The postdoc position is part of the research team, which focuses on using omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, fluxomics) to study and design biological systems. We are in particular specialized in using genome-scale models of metabolism to integrate and interpret omics data.

The position is part of a collaborative research project focusing on identifying molecular networks that link dietary interventions to life span and health improvements. The project studies these effects in both model organisms (C. elegans and mouse) and humans. The aim of the project is to identify common molecular networks related to metabolism and its regulation in the different systems that are studied. The project will utilize multi-omic profiling (metabolome, transcriptome, miRNome, microbiome) to study the effects of dietary interventions. This particular postdoc position will be aiming to integrate the different omics data types for each organism using genome-scale metabolic models to identify common and divergent molecular mechanisms.

Responsibilities and tasks 

• Analysis and integration of omics data sets for the project together with other consortium members
• Application of genome-scale metabolic models for model organisms and specific human cell types to analyse omics data
• Maintaining curated mammalian metabolic models and project-related data in the DD-DeCaF data-driven modelling platform (http://dd-decaf.eu)
• Writing scientific publications and giving presentations on the project
• Participation in project meetings

This project is a collaboration between University of Campinas, Brazil (Prof. Marcelo Mori), Center for Basic Metabolic Research at University of Copenhagen (Dr. Jonas Thue Treebak) and Technical University of Denmark

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

• PhD degree or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Data Science, Bioengineering, Biotechnology or similar field
• Strong background in omics (transcriptomics, metabolomics, metagenomics) data analysis preferably applied to studying mammalian systems
• Experience or interest in metabolic physiology and metabolic disease
• Demonstrated scientific publication track record
• Experience in metabolic or other network modelling is highly desirable
• Ability to work in interdisciplinary research teams with people from different backgrounds
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

Period of employment is two years. Workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus near Copenhagen.
