Postdoc in Electrical Characterisation of Advanced thin Films using Terahertz Spectroscopy

DTU Nanotech conducts cross-disciplinary research where micro- and nanotechnology is applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines (electronics, mechanics, chemistry, optics, fluidics, medical and biotechnology) as well as applications. DTU Nanotech depends heavily on the two state-of-the-art facilities, DTU Danchip (1300 m² cleanroom) and DTU CEN – Center for Electron Nanoscopy. The graphene cluster at DTU Nanotech is rapidly growing with activities oriented towards basic and applied research, experimental, industrial and theoretical research alike, and with strong international collaborations. 

DTU hosts the Center of Excellence CNG (Center of Nanostructured Graphene) with 30+ researchers and students covering both fabrication, measurement and theory of graphene devices. The 2D Electronic Materials group is also involved in the EU Graphene Flagship.

Responsibilities and tasks 
DTU wishes to employ a post-doctoral researcher for 30 months to carry out research in electrical properties of advanced thin films (including 2D materials) using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS), and to develop THz-TDS based measurement equipment and metrology protocols for fast, accurate and reproducible mapping of the electronic properties of graphene and other two-dimensional materials on up to 12’’ substrates using gateable substrates or gate-free methodologies.

Qualifications 
Candidates should have a PhD degree in physics or equivalent.

The postdoc will be selected based on the following qualifications 

• Solid theoretical background and knowledge of concepts and methods in the field/literature, especially within electronics, optics and applications of 2D materials and advanced thin films (i.e. magnetic tunnel junctions and ultrathin polymer films)
• Experience with terahertz spectroscopy
• Experience with electrical characterisation of graphene using field-effect, Hall measurements or other techniques
• Other relevant characterisation techniques for graphene such as Raman spectroscopy, SEM, TEM and AFM.
• Other relevant qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with 

• Scientific production and research potential at international level
• Innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas
• Independent problem solving skills
• Excellent communication and language skills
• Experience with international collaborations and collaborations with industry

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 30 months.

The workplace is at the Technical University of Denmark in Kgs. Lyngby.
