Postdoc in Embedded Systems Engineering and Hardware/Software Codesign

DTU Compute' section for Embedded Systems Engineering is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with solid experience in building embedded systems and a strong background in hardware/software co-design. The position is funded by a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and is time limited to 2 years and 1 month.

ESE conducts research in a broad range of topics central for the design of modern embedded systems for example real-time systems, fault-tolerant and safety-critical systems and hardware/software codesign. This position is within multi-core platforms covering reconfigurable platforms and biochips.

The project is a cross-disciplinary research project covering the fields of micro and nanotechnology, computer science and biotechnology to create a step-change innovation for industrial biotechnology. The project will develop a digital microfluidic platform, which allows fully automated creation of strain construction in E. coli and yeast S. cerevisiae strains, based on droplet-sized reagent volumes.

Responsibilities and tasks
The postdoc will be in charge of developing the supporting software tools which makes the design and implementation of protocols as easy as programming your computer. The postdoc will also be involved in developing hardware instrumentation and interfaces to the biochip.

The project is carried out as a collaboration between 3 departments at DTU and therefore the right applicant is expected to be experienced in working cross-disciplinary in close collaboration with scientists from other research disciplines.

Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with a recent PhD in computer engineering and a strong scientific background within reconfigurable computing, program synthesis, or compilers/run-times. Furthermore the candidate should have the following qualifications:

• knowledge and experience of digital microfluidic biochip systems.
• strong background in hardware/software codesign
• solid experience with building embedded systems

In addition you have:

• strong analytical and academic skills
• compelling oral and written communication skills in English with a track record of scientific publications, conference presentations, reports and/or popular dissemination
• experience in teaching and supervision of students at an academic level
• excellent interpersonal skills including team working and a collegiate approach.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position is a full-time position. The period of employment is 2 years and 1 month. The position is available from 1 February 2019.
