The Department of Environmental Science at Aarhus University, Roskilde, Denmark invites applications for a position in environmental chemistry as a Postdoc. The position is to be filled by January 1st 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a time limited 2 year position.

Qualifications requirements
The position will be co-funded by projects on biocides from the Danish EPA and the BONUS project Cleanwater on water cleaning technologies.

The candidate will hold a masters and PhD in environmental chemistry or similar and will have a strong background in quantifying organic compounds in environmental maticees, especially water. Experiences in:

• i) quantifying organic micro-pollutants (e.g. biocides or flame retardants) in technical systems as well as in the environment including method development for HPLC-MS/MS and GC-MS.
• ii) studies on processes in technical and environmental systems (wastewater, stormwater, drinking water, building infrastructure or marine ecosystems).
• iii) transformation reactions of the above mentioned compounds such as microbial degradation and/or chemical oxidation.
• iv) identifying transformation products.
• v) publishing the respective results.
• vi) project proposals and reporting.

The candidate is also expected to contribute to co-ordinating larger projects thus experience in this field would also be a plus. Further, the candidate is expected to participate in consultancy/advisory projects in the department.

The Group
Is headed by Kai Bester and currently consists of 7 PhD students, 2 postdocs and three HPLC-MS/MS instruments as well as a multitude of pilot reactors are operated.

The Department of Environmental Science
The Department of Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary department under the Faculty of Science & Technology at Aarhus University. The expertise ranges from physics, chemistry, microbiology and mathematical modelling to social science, geography, economics and policy analysis. Both basic and applied research is conducted on some of the major challenges facing society, such as pollution and pollution control mechanisms, management of land, soil, water, air and biodiversity, protection of ecosystem services, climate change, and energy systems. Advisory services within these areas are offered to ministries and other stakeholders. Currently, about 150 staff and PhD-students are working at the department. Description of the section
The selected candidate will be affiliated with the Section for Environmental Chemistry & Toxicology. The section conducts research and research-based advisory services targeted towards an understanding of the transport and fate of organic pollutants in the environment, and towards an understanding of the links between environmental chemistry, toxicology and human exposure. In addition, tools are being developed to both identify and quantify impacts, which can act as indicators of emerging problems. The aim is to provide the highest capability in Denmark for assessing risks associated with the distribution and fate of organic pollutants in the environment. Expertise within the section includes:

• Environmental chemical risk assessments of mixtures and contaminants of emerging concern
• State-of-the-art analytical methods for the measurement of trace-levels of organic pollutants in various matrices, including biota (including human), sediment, soil, air, consumer products, food and water
• Environmental toxicology, exposure and effects
• Forensic oil spill analysis
• Chemical and biological transformation processes

It is expected that the candidate will interact with and conduct projects on biocidal products, urban water cycles and water cleaning to support the ongoing projects and contribute the development of the strategic fields of Aarhus University concerning water and contaminants. The candidate is expected to acquire projects.

This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated.
