Postdoc in Genetic Engineering of Filamentous Fungi

Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine is a major Danish research and teaching department in the field of systems biology and is involved in a wide range of research activities within its field.

We are seeking an ambitious postdoc with a documented history of scientific excellence to be affiliated with the Eukaryotic Molecular Cell Biology. The candidate will be part of a larger project DIVERSIFY that includes River Stone, Novozymes and Novo Nordisk as industrial partners. The position is funded by a grant from the Innovation Fund Denmark.

Responsibilities and tasks

Fungi are of large economic importance due to their widespread application in industry and their natural capabilities as highly efficient cell factories. In particular as producers of industrial enzymes and medically relevant metabolites. Recently the genetic tools for engineering model filamentous fungi have been greatly improved and one important purpose of this project is to transfer these technologies to an array of other fungi.

The goal is to provide a simple system that allows for heterologous expression of genes in a large library of different fungal species. The candidate will be part of a larger project DIVERSIFY that also focus on yeast species. DIVERSIFY includes River Stone, Novozymes and Novo Nordisk as industrial partners.

This postdoctoral position offers the unique opportunity to work in a dedicated team of PhD students. The postdoc's main tasks will be:

• Improving fungal heterologous production of enzymes and secondary metabolites.
• Responsible for daily management of the project in collaboration with the PI.
• Co-supervision of one or more PhD students
• Teaching activities under the course portfolio of the Department

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

The successful candidate should have experience with several of the following:

• Writing publications for leading journals in the field
• Fungal molecular biology and genetic engineering based on USER cloning
• Solid experience with genetic engineering of filamentous
• Characterization of filamentous fungiProtein and secondary metabolite extractions
• Enzymatic assays
• Analysis of secondary metabolite profiles

It would furthermore be advantageous, but not essential, for the candidate to have knowledge of, or experience with the following:

• Experience with industrial collaborations
• Supervision of students
• Management of multiple projects
• Robotics for PCR, vector design, or strain construction

Salary and terms of employment


The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
