Postdoc in High-count Multi-core Fiber Design and Transmission

DTU Fotonik works with all areas of photonic engineering, including a strong focus on optical communications. We are now seeking a Postdoc in high-count multi-core fiber design and transmission in connection with the EU-Japan coordinated R&D project on “Scalable And Flexible optical Architecture for Reconfigurable Infrastructure (SAFARI)” funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of Japan. Start 1st of October or as soon as possible. Responsibilities and tasks The Postdoc will be fully funded by the SAFARI project. Its main objective is to develop programmable optical hardware as well as Space-Division Multiplexing (SDM)-based optical component technologies capable of realizing highly scalable & flexible optical transport networks. The Postdoc will be in particular, responsible for making a conceptual design and evaluation of highly scalable high-count multi-core fibers (MCFs) and participating in system experiments on scalable & flexible optical transport networks based on SDN controlled interworking capability and capacity-scalable hardware developed in the project. The Postdoc may benefit from international collaboration with project partners at Coriant R&D GmbH, Germany, the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), University of Southampton, UK, NTT Corporation, Japan, and Fujikura Ltd., Japan. Apart from the research outlined above the Postdoc position will involve a limited amount of teaching mainly in the form of supervising student projects. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent in the areas of optical fiber design and optical fiber communication systems. A strong background in MCF design/evaluation and optical fiber transmission experiments is highly desirable.
