A computational biologist in a postdoctoral position is sought to work with integrating microbiome sequence data with clinical data, genomics, metabolomics and nutritional data, assessing the impact of diet on health and changes in the gut microbiome. The position is based within the group of Functional Human Variation group at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis at the Technical University of Denmark, and will report to group lead Associate professor Ramneek Gupta as well as Professor Thomas Sicheritz Pontén, head of the Metagenomics Group. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated, and have prior relevant experience as there is no training startup period in this particular position. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic team analysing next generation sequencing data and utilise systems biology and data integration methods to elucidate the impact of diet on metabolic health. Responsibilities and tasks The candidate will take on a central role in the Danish research project “Gut, Grain and Greens (3G)”. The candidate will analyse metagenomics sequence data generated from a dietary intervention study to identify changes in the gut microbiome in response to a change in whole grain and gluten consumption. In collaboration with DTU Food and University of Copenhagen the candidate will also play a central role in the data integration process where advanced statistical and machine learning approaches will be utilised to integrate clinical data with the gut microbiome and metabolomics data. Handling and managing large data sets is a central theme in this position, as well as coordinating the analysis and communication across various partners. It is encouraged to participate in grant writing directed towards extending the position. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Applicants should hold a PhD in bioinformatics, biology, engineering, computer science or similar. The candidate must have strong computational skills and prior experience with large data sets, Unix command line environments, as well as either Perl, Python or a comparable scripting language. The applicant must have prior experience with bioinformatics and metagenomics analyses. Experience with application of statistics, systems biology, machine learning and multi-omics data integration methods are considered a strength. The applicant must be a good communicator, a team player and strong in written as well as spoken English.
