Postdoc in Monitoring and Control of Electric Power Systems

Center for Electric Power and Energy (CEE) seeks qualified candidates for a position as Postdoc in monitoring and control of electric energy systems.

We invite applications from candidates with research experience and wide knowledge in monitoring and control of transmission and/or distribution networks, understanding of smart grid controls, and a strong motivation for contributing to teaching activities at the Department of Electrical Engineering.

The research of our new colleague will cover monitoring of distribution networks during operation and control of distributed energy resources and assessment of transmission system security under the limitations of distribution network flexibility.

The work entails collaboration between DTU departments where energy system security analysis is treated with different perspectives on scale and time. In addition, the position involves participation in current and future research projects within the general theme of monitoring, assessment and control of electric power systems.

Responsibilities and tasks

You will be responsible for:

• Developing and testing algorithms for operation condition monitoring of distribution networks
• Developing and assessing distributed controls at transmission and distribution levels
• formulating research projects in collaboration with other researchers at DTU and other research institutes.
• Cooperating in current and future research projects within the field of electric power systems
• Communicating results to the scientific as well as industrial communities
• Contributing and taking responsibility of teaching activities in M.Sc. and B.Sc. level courses and supervision of student projects

Our new Postdoc will participate running projects in electric power systems with national and international partners. In addition, our new colleague will collaborate with other departments at DTU to formulate and carry-out cross-departmental research projects. Close collaboration with academic and industrial partners in EU can be expected.

Our new colleague will be affiliated with the Electric Power Systems research group at CEE.

Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

Technical and academic qualifications:

• You have an excellent understanding of power system stability assessment and monitoring.
• You have a wide knowledge of electric power systems and integration of renewables.
• You have a documented track-record in research within monitoring and control of power systems.
• You have good programming skills in e.g. C/C++, Python and Matlab
• You are acquainted with methodologies for distribution and transmission system monitoring.
• You have knowledge within distributed controls and their constraints for both transmission and distribution level perspectives.
• You have teaching experiences and are inspired to contribute in the continued development of courses.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is two years, preferably starting on 1 May 2019.
