The Group of Epidemiology and Microbiological Risk Assessment (EpiRisk) at the National Food Institute, DTU, is looking for a postdoc or equivalent to work on a large international EU project, ORION. It is an integrative project with the aim to enhance and improve One Health Surveillance in the EU. It has partners from seven European countries. From each country, two national institutes/agencies of the national veterinary, food or public health sectors participate to enhance collaboration.

This full-time position is for a period of two years.

Responsibilities and tasks

The postdoc will be expected to take the responsibility for managing and delivering DTUs scientific objectives in the ORION project and support One Health surveillance work in the EpiRisk group.

This includes:

• Analyse national surveillance and register data to identify patterns and associations with the aim to improve control and surveillance programmes.
• Collaborate with Statens Serum Institute and other project partners to describe and analyse One Health surveillance systems.
• Contribute to EpiRisk's surveillance work in general and support new initiatives on One Health and surveillance.

The outputs will be of interest to society, industry, EU and other stakeholders and feed into national zoonosis action plans.

Qualifications

The successful candidate has experience in data-driven epidemiology including working with data from multiple sources and statistical analyses of surveillance data. Experience with analysis of sequencing data, large datasets and register data would be desirable. Motivation, flexibility and responsibility are desired skills at DTU, as well as a natural interest in collaboration and professional development. For the specific position, it is essential to have excellent skills in collaboration and the ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams. Complete fluency in written and oral English is necessary and spoken Danish is an advantage.

Essential qualifications and skills:

• Must have a PhD degree
• Excellent skills in analytical epidemiology
• Proven record of statistical analyses of large diverse datasets including data from different data sources
• Enthusiasm for applied, society-relevant research

Desired additional skills:

• Experience in surveillance system design, evaluation and interpretation
• Knowledge of the epidemiology of foodborne zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance
• Experience in statistical analysis in R, especially GIS and multivariable association analyses

The Group for Epidemiology and Microbiological Risk Assessment (EpiRisk) is in the Division of Risk Assessment & Nutrition at Danish Technical University (DTU). The EpiRisk group provides research-based advice for policy on national zoonosis control and surveillance in Denmark. We collate, analyse and report on data from the large One Health Surveillance programmes and advice on design and interpretation of outputs. The EpiRisk group provides advice mainly to The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and EFSA but also to food industry and other international organisations. Our advice is based on research and surveillance carried out in collaboration with other departments at DTU and other agencies or universities in Denmark and Europe. We continuously work to develop and enhance our One Health Surveillance Systems and disseminate knowledge of our experiences to support others.

DTU is a leading technical university recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years from March 2019.
