Postdoc in Veterinary Virology – Enzootic Viruses

Applications are invited for a two year position as a postdoc at the National Veterinary Institute, within the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Division of Virology. Responsibilities and tasks The postdoc will be responsible for cloning, modification and expression of full genome and subunits of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus (PRRSV) in the frame of a project financed by The strategic research counsil. The tasks involve amplification of genes by PCR, cloning in mammalians expression systems, propagation of viruses in cell culture and expression, purification and visualization of PRRSV proteins.In addition, the post doc will be responsible for full genome sequencing of European PRRSV isolates by next generation sequencing and related bioinformatics analyses. Finally, the post doc will be responsible for titration studies of parvovirus in the frame of a GUDP project on passive immunisation. The applicant will be involved in teaching of veterinary students on virological methods and will be co-supervisor on pre and post graduate student projects and PhD propjects. In addition, the applicant will for a limited period of time be involved in the laboratory preparedness program on avian influenza virus. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The applicant should be experienced in molecular techniques such as next generation sequencing, molecular cloning of RNA viruses, protein purification and analyses, establishment and maintenance of cell cultures for virus inoculation. The applicant should be familiar with bioinformatics analyses on viral genes and preferable hold a PhD in veterinary virology or related fields. Experience in molecular manipulation of RNA virus genomes would be beneficial.
