Postdoc position in ICT and Market Solutions for the Integration of Distributed Energy Resources

DTU Compute, Technical University of Denmark, would like to invite applications for a 2-year Postdoc position focused on investigating ICT and market solutions for the integration of distributed energy resources, starting in the first quarter of 2016. The position is linked to the European project “SmartNet – Smart TSO-DSO interaction schemes, market architectures and ICT solutions for the integration of ancillary services from demand side management and distributed generation,” which has a total budget of €12.6 million from the EU-Horizon 2020 program and involves a wide range of industrial and academic partners. Research activities in SmartNet are intended to develop, implement and demonstrate ICT-based market solutions for the exploitation of distributed energy resources. Job description The postdoctoral researcher is expected to work closely and constructively together with SmartNet Partners. You will be mainly in charge of developing offering models for clusters of distributed energy resources and market mechanisms for their efficient integration, in close collaboration with a PhD student linked to SmartNet. You will be expected to contribute to guaranteeing the successful development and completion of the Danish test case that is one of the three pilots that SmartNet will conduct. The Danish pilot aims at assessing the potential for provision of ancillary services from an aggregation of Danish summerhouses with swimming pools and involves cooperation with Energinet.dk (the Danish TSO), Nyfors (a Danish DSO), Novasol (in charge of renting out the summerhouses), EURISCO (a Danish software development company), and Danske Commodities (an energy trader and aggregator). Finally, you will be expected to contribute to project management activities such as reporting and supervision. Qualifications The applicants should have: •PhD degree (or equivalent) in power systems or control engineering, mathematics, or physics •Experience in smart grids, ICT, and energy systems •Background in mathematics and statistics, operations research, mathematical modelling and optimization theory •Preferably experience with project management •Leadership and team skills Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential •the ability to promote and utilize research results •the ability to communicate at all levels in English •experience from international research environment •the ability to contribute to development of the programs •internal and external cooperation •good problem solving skills •evidence of leadership and team skills We offer We offer a unique opportunity to be an active part of a large and challenging research, innovation and demonstration project that gathers together a number of academic and research institutions and industrial partners all over Europe, working on innovative solutions to integrate and exploit distributed energy resources.
