Background
The Lundbeck Foundation GeoGenetics Centre (LFGGC), headed by Professor Eske Willerslev, has been a world leading research group in ancient genomics for more than10 years at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Through strong interdisciplinary and international collaborations, the Centre has produced several ground-breaking research contributions.

The positions
The LFGGC offers a busy and stimulating working environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong tradition for collaboration. We are employing two qualified, highly-motivated, and committed full-time post docs for 3 years from 1 July 2019.

Over the next few years, we are posed to generate the largest ancient genome panel so far produced. We will sequence thousands of genomes from across Western Eurasia, spanning a period of 10,000 years. We will use them to investigate demographic changes over time, patterns of selection in genes, pathways, & biological functions, and to trace the paleo-epidemiology of ancient pathogens that affected populations in the past.

The positions is divided evenly between participating in the wet lab data generation for our flagship project in our dedicated ancient DNA lab facility (50%), and more independent research project(s) within the framework of the Centre scope, such as human population genomics, pathogens, or oral microbiome (50%). All work is conducted in close collaboration with the other scientific staff members at LFCGG, the staff in the Sequencing Centre core facility as well as external partners.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

In the LFGGC aDNA clean laboratory facility

• Preparation of ancient sample material for ancient DNA analysis.
• Participation in extraction of ancient DNA and library preparation using manual and automated procedures.
• Participation in the daily operation of the ancient DNA clean laboratory facility.
• Ad hoc participation in the scientific activities and meetings of the group.

Independent research project
Our group studies a broad range of topics related to the genetics of ancient human populations, their pathogens, and their microbiome. Within these overall themes, the independent research project opportunities will be negotiated with the hired candidates, taking his/her expertise and professional interests into account. This could for example include:

• Ancient DNA lab-method development and protocol optimizations.
• Population genomics of ancient human populations within key periods of our prehistory, including demographic inference of migration, admixture and population dynamics.
• Studies of natural selection based on ancient human genomes.
• Ancient pathogens, molecular detection, phylogenetics and their co-evolution with humans.
• Correlations between past human population demographics and paleo-environmental data.
• Correlational studies combining paleo-environmental and paleo-genomic data.

Qualifications

• PhD within Biology / Molecular Biology / Evolutionary Biology is required.
• Documented hands-on experience with ancient DNA molecular biology and high-throughput sequencing.
• An independent, rational, and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.
• Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.

Terms of employment
Employment is as postdoc, in a fulltime position for 37 hours/week. The 3-years positions will be available from 1 July 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The terms of conditions and payment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Danish Ministry of Finance. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 430,570 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 73,627). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
