Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre

The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (DHRTC) was established in 2014 in agreement between the Technical University of Denmark and the Danish Underground Consortium, a joint venture between Total, Shell, Chevron and Nordsøfonden. The objective of the centre is to demonstrate increased oil and gas recovery from the Danish North Sea and thus meet an important and urgent societal challenge. The centre was funded through a 1 billion DKK donation over a 10 year period. Today, after four years of activity some 250 researchers and industry expert are associated with DHRTC. They are working on six large research programmes with line of sight to application in the Danish North Sea oil and gas fields. A considerable part of the donation remains to be invested in research and technology development in the coming years.

DHRTC is an active partnership of five universities and research institutions: The Technical University of Denmark, Aalborg University, Aarhus University, Copenhagen University and the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. The partners are working on a large number of multi-disciplinary oil and gas related research projects aimed at improving oil and gas recovery in safe, environmentally sustainable and economically viable ways. The unique collaboration model gives DHRTC a platform to perform large scale research and to implement new insights into applicable technology concepts and solutions.

The job

As a member of the DHRTC leadership team and as deputy to the Centre Director, the Programme Director will work at strategic and tactic levels within the following areas of responsibility:

Leadership:

• Lead and inspire multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional collaboration at a large scale
• Communicate DHRTC's vision and accomplishments to further engage our many diverse stakeholders in academia, industry and society

Programme management:

• Develop and drive the project portfolio in accordance with the scientific framework and contract between DTU and DUC. The portfolio currently counts six research programmes with nearly 200 ongoing projects and annual budget of some 100 mio. DKK (see our website).
• Lead and support the programme management team.
• Balance the utilisation of the centre's resources in accordance with short and long-term objectives.
• Oversee DHRTC engagements in research, technology and innovation activities and continuously optimize activities, projects and the portfolio.
• Engage actively with DHRTC's key stakeholders within DUC, the academic partner institutions, 3rd party companies, industry organizations etc. to identify high impact, multidisciplinary activities and projects and to further develop the oil and gas knowledge and research environment in Denmark and internationally.
• Implement and continuously improve the DHRTC work processes (see our website) and collaboration model.
• Nurture a culture of internal and external collaboration based on a solid understanding of stakeholder interests.

Other managerial areas:

• Together with the DHRTC management team, drive and develop the centre's strategy to secure short-term delivery of results and a long-term, sustainable future for the centre.
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the centre in close and constructive collaboration with the DHCTC management team.
• Deputise for the Centre Director.

Our expectations to you

Applicants should be proven leaders and recognized professionals with academic credentials and significant industrial experience. Moreover, the preferred candidate will have the following characteristics:

• Oil and gas technical background and a relevant M.Sc. or PhD degree possibly supported by a relevant education in innovation.
• Broad and deep knowledge of and network within the oil and gas sector in Denmark and/or internationally.
• Solid leadership experience and ability to influence at all strategic levels in complex organizations.
• Experience with large project or programme management
• An innovative and creative mind-set and motivation to develop new ideas and opportunities through applied research.
• Ability to oscillate freely between academic and business environments.
• Exceptional collaborative and relationship building capabilities.
• Robustness, passion and humour.
