Research Assistant in beneficial plant microbiota interaction at the DynaMo Center

A 6-months position as Research Assistant is vacant at the DynaMo Center, a Center of Excellence within plant biology funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. The Center is hosted by the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen and located at Thorvaldsensvej 40, 1871 Frederiksberg C, Denmark.

The position commences 1 March 2019 or at a date thereafter of mutual agreement.

In DynaMo (http://www.dynamo.ku.dk), we take a pathway-centric approach to understand molecular processes enabling the plant to respond and adapt to the ever-changing environment. We have a vibrant research environment with excellent opportunities for the young scientists to advance their competences in multiple directions.

Project abstractJV_description
Plants greatly rely on their root microbiome for uptake of nutrients and protection against stresses, but our understanding at the molecular/mechanistic level of what shapes the interaction is limited. In this project, our goal is to understand the underlying molecular mechanism by which plants select microbial traits as well as the physiological significance of the establishment of these (beneficial) interaction.


Job abstractJV_description
We are currently looking for a Research Assistant to assist us in our work aimed at deciphering the mechanism of plant microbe interactions in our model system for improving plant health and nutrition. The person will have a great opportunity to advance his/her basic research skills. The tasks will be diverse and include:

• Screening and identification of beneficial microorganisms for nutrient delivery in selected soils
• Screening chemical cues for establishment of beneficial plant-microbe interaction
• Plant growth assays under various conditions and using mutants
• Mechanistic studies with Arabidopsis mutants

Qualification requirements

• A relevant master’s degree e.g. within Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or Molecular Biomedicine
• Good English language skills

Students who expect to complete their MSc program during the fall of 2018 are also invited to apply. If you have not yet obtained the MSc degree, in your cover letter please indicate when you expect to graduate and from which date you will be able to commence the position. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to seek a PhD position within the DynaMo Center.

Key criteria for the assessment of candidates
Special importance will be attached to applicants having the following professional and personal qualifications:

• Documented laboratory experience within microbiology and/or molecular plant biology
• A strong motivation for learning basic research skills
• Well-developed collaborative skills

Terms of employment

The position is available for a 6 months period. The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 346,614 including annual supplement (+ 17.1 % pension). Negotiation for qualification salary supplement is possible.
