The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DTU Mekanik) of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Section for Manufacturing Engineering, has an open a Research Assistant position in the field of Precision and Micro Injection Moulding Technology. The Research Assistant will be working on the project "High throughput integrated technologies for multi-material functional Micro Components" (HINMICO)” funded by the European commission in the 7th Framework Program and to support the Section for Manufacturing Engineering research activities in the field of precision and micro injection technology. The position is temporary and duration of the employment is 6 months, starting as soon as possible. Responsibililties and tasks The Research Assistant will be responsible for: •Execution and optimization of precision and micro injection moulding experiments, including process monitoring. •Performing quality control of precision and micro moulded products and moulds by means of dimensional and surface micro metrology techniques. •Carrying out simulations of precision and micro injection moulding processes. •Design for manufacturing of polymer-based products. •Using statistical tools to optimize and validate experimental and simulative results. •Presentation, reporting and dissemination of research results. The position encompasses both simulation work related to implementation and experimental work on model validation through moulding tests, process monitoring and dimensional, geometrical and surface characterization of tools and moulded parts. The position has both project and research responsibilities. Qualifications Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent. Good knowledge of production engineering technologies, micro manufacturing technologies, and in particular of the injection and micro injection moulding processes are fundamental requirements. Knowledge of process monitoring, manufacturing metrology, CAD, design of experiments, process simulation and previous experience in research-based projects are desirable and will be evaluated positively. The candidate should have good mathematical/analytical skills as well as good communication skills.
