A position as research scientist in the area of fish diseases, is vacant at the Section for Virology. Responsibilities and tasks The position is related to the area of fish diseases and placed together with the Fish Diseases Unit at the Section for Virology, which performs diagnostics, provide consultancy and develop research projects focusing on the prevention and control of fish diseases. The Fish Diseases Unit in Section for Virology is appointed as the national reference laboratory for fish diseases. In addition, since 1994 the institute has been appointed as the EU reference laboratory for fish diseases and the OIE reference laboratory for VHS. In relation to this the laboratory is periodically involved in producing, testing and delivering inter-laboratory proficiency tests, training courses and workshops. Furthermore the laboratory provides technical and scientific advice to the EU Commission and the Member States' national reference laboratories for fish diseases. The primary responsibilities The employee's work area will cover research, development, diagnostics and technical advice regarding fish diseases within the framework of maintenance and improvement of the veterinary contingency plan for fish diseases in Denmark and in the EU. Core activities where the successful applicant will be involved in are: •Daily supervision, management and maintenance of activities in experimental tank facilities, design and implementation of experimental trials •Monitoring of infectious diseases in aquaculture in Denmark •Education / training in the field. •Proactive participation in research projects and grant applications Tasks will include participation in the management and execution of diagnosis, consultancy and research concerning fish diseases. Furthermore the successful applicant will be involved in the daily processing of samples, case replies and advice on fish diseases including prevention and management. As the Veterinary Institute in 2016 will be transferred from Frederiksberg to new buildings at the Campus of DTU in Lyngby north of Copenhagen the successful candidate must take part in this process- especially with designing and commissioning the new experimental tank facilities there. Qualifications Applicants with a PhD in related field will be prioritized. The applicant must expect practical work in our tank facilities and in the laboratory in collaboration with the other academics and laboratory technicians of the group. It is thus important for the appointment that the applicant has good communication and interpersonal skills. A candidate with specific experience in pathology, virology, molecular epidemiology or fish diseases will be preferred. Experience with experimental tank facilities will be an advantage. The candidate will have a proactive role in grant application writing and implementation of funded project in national and international consortia. There will be opportunities for publishing the results.
