The Energy Economics and Regulation group at DTU Management Engineering offers a position as researcher in the area of energy economics and systems analysis of integration of renewable energy. Research focuses on how to form and create regulatory and technology pathways to future renewable based energy systems, addresses national and international issues and covers the level of society as well as consumers and businesses. The Energy Economics and Regulation group is part of the Systems Analysis Division which is placed within the Department of Management Engineering at DTU. The division conducts basic and applied research within the area of energy system analysis, policy instruments, regulatory issues, energy demand, geography, economics, and climate science. Responsibilities and tasks The researcher shall: •Further develop and operate existing optimisation models for the energy systems, e.g. the Balmorel energy system model - a partial equilibrium model that is used for analysis of the energy sectors with emphasis on the electricity and the combined heat and power sectors. •Develop mathematical models for performing energy economic studies and policy analyses of regulatory frameworks and technological development for different energy sectors. •Perform feasibility studies of different renewable energy technologies, e.g. offshore wind farms for specific cases / scenarios. This includes investment analysis, calculation of levelized cost of energy (LCOE), and project evaluation. •Consider energy economically feasible policy and regulatory frameworks for pathways towards energy systems with very high shares of variable renewable energy, e.g. wind energy. The researcher shall employ macro and micro economic theory, operations research, regulatory economics and policy analysis. Focus will be on quantitative methods which will require solid modelling skills. The researcher will also be expected to conduct teaching and participate in research-based public sector services and in general meetings in the Department about research and strategic issues as well as participate in collaboration with other research groups/departments at DTU. Qualifications We are seeking candidates with a PhD degree in economics, operations research, mathematical-economics, science or engineering. The researcher will be selected through a competitive application process.
