The Department of Wind Energy in the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Wind Energy) is seeking a Researcher in Energy Management and Control of Wind and Hybrid Power Plants for the Integration and Planning Section (INP). The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

DTU Wind Energy is a department with the overall mission of contributing to research, development and education within wind energy. DTU Wind Energy develops and creates value from the natural and technical sciences with a focus on wind energy for the benefit of society. The department is an internationally leading center in wind energy and cooperates with industry and institutions worldwide.

You will be part of the international team carrying out research in the integration of wind power into the power system, control concepts for wind turbines and wind power plants, electrical design concepts, grid connection and large-scale wind energy integration. The working language is English.

Our research is function oriented in the sense that we direct the research towards issues that are relevant for industrial development and applications by grid operators and wind power industry.

Responsibilities and tasks

The candidate will contribute to the research, innovation and education in operation and control of wind and hybrid wind / solar PV / storage plants in power systems. This includes:
  • Research in optimization of energy management, control and component sizing of wind-hybrid power plants
  • Contribution to research in power system balancing of forecast uncertainties with high shares of wind and solar PV
  • Contribution to education including teaching, supervision of master students and co-supervision of PhD students
  • Contribution to the conception and writing of proposals for research funding.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.

Further qualifications:
  • Postdoc experience relevant to the area of control of wind power plants for power system integration.
  • Experience with dynamic modelling of wind for power system stability studies.
  • Experience using optimization in operation and design of wind and hybrid plants in power systems
  • Experience with modelling of impact of wind power variability on balancing of power systems.
  • Experience with working in research projects working together with universities and other research institutes as well as grid operators and wind power industry
  • Experience with team work on preparing research project proposals to attract external funding.
  • Experience with class teaching and co-supervision of master theses

Effective English communication skills for preparing reports and oral presentations.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment.
