The Novo Nordisk Foundation is looking for a Scientific Officer, expert in chemical research, with a focus on interdisciplinarity. 

Natural and Technical Science Research and Interdisciplinarity (Nat-Tech) is one of six newly defined strategic areas in the 2019-2023 Strategy. Interdisciplinary research in the Natural and Technical sciences plays an important role in advances in biomedicine and biotechnology, and thus has become a new focus for The Novo Nordisk Foundation.   

The Scientific Officer will develop the framework and help identify existing areas of interest within natural and technical sciences. You will, thereby, have an exceptional opportunity to influence interdisciplinary collaboration and research in Denmark. 
With a focus on impact, the Scientific Officer will  support the Head of Department in conceiving, developing, and executing grant-awarding activities. This will be done in collaboration with colleagues and key partners such as universities, research centres, and companies.   

The Job 

As Scientific Officer, you will support the Head of Department in development, execution and follow-up of grant-awarding activities within Natural and Technical Sciences. This will include development, implementation and follow-up on grants to research centres and/or research projects, as well as, involvement in development and management of open calls.  Additional tasks will be to:  

  • Develop and implement grants for interdisciplinary research in collaboration with the other Scientific Officers at Novo Nordisk Foundation 
  • Prepare reports, documents, and other highly professional written material 
  • Participate and support in the assessment of grants 
  • Drive, coordinate and follow-up on projects, target achievement and impact assessments 
  • Undertake continuous dialogue with grant recipients, collaboration partners, committee members and other stakeholders

Professional Qualifications  

We are lookingfor a Scientific Officer with an M.D. degree or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or related fields within the natural sciences, preferably with experience in performing interdisciplinary research at the level of Senior Postdoc, Senior Scientist, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.   We expect that you possess:  

  • Strong and demonstrated scientific expertise in the field of chemistry with the ability to work within the field of interdisciplinary research 
  • Comprehensive understanding of the nature and culture of science 
  • Understanding in and excellent capabilities to analyse and communicate on research results, research projects, and research evaluations 
  • Understanding of concepts, practices, policies, and procedures within an interdisciplinary field of natural scientific research in the public and private sectors 
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, especially in English
