- Research & Development - Denmark - Måløv In this job you will develop and optimise synthesis processes of future clinical candidates to assure smooth process transfer and secure proper delivery from discovery to Compound, Manufacture and Control (CMC). If hands-on organic chemistry and peptide synthesis are your main interests you might be our next chemist in Peptide and Protein Chemistry within Global Research Unit. The Global Research Unit specialises in the discovery of biological medicines for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders. Furthermore, we conduct stem cell and beta cell regeneration research and other early-stage investigations aimed at finding a cure for diabetes, as well as exploring novel treatments for obesity and long-term, micro-vascular complications of diabetes. The Global Research Unit consists of approximately 1500 highly qualified Scientists, PhDs/PostDocs and Laboratory Technicians and we conduct our world class research from sites based in the Greater Copenhagen area, Beijing and Seattle. About the department Peptide and Protein Chemistry is a function area within Protein Engineering with the responsibility of engineering peptides and proteins in order to improve the therapeutic properties and to develop early process protocols suitable for API upscaling. Our projects embrace not only innovative products for injection, but also ground-breaking oral administration of insulin and GLP-1 analogues. Peptide and Protein Chemistry consist of five departments with about 70 employees of which half holds a PhD degree in chemistry. The job The overall objective of this position is to lead innovation within the area of early process development for synthetic and semi-recombinant APIs. The primary responsibility is to develop scalable and robust synthesis protocols and purification methods of peptides and protein derivatives. Another key responsibility is to develop methods for up-scaling of agents used for derivatisation of peptides and proteins. The job will cover the optimisation of solid phase peptide chemistry protocols, development of derivatisation chemistry and semi-recombinant processes in laboratory scale, enzymatic mediated modifications as well as development of gram scale purification technologies. The success of the job depends on the ability to work together with the chemists in CMC to whom you will transfer the optimised protocols aligned to the methods that are qualified for pre-clinical and clinical production of API. Qualifications You have a strong scientific background and hold a PhD in organic chemistry. If you also have experience with either protein chemistry or solid phase peptide synthesis it would be an advantage. In addition, you have a good knowledge within scientific areas related to drug discovery and development. Experience with preparative purification methods is also required as well as knowledge of analysis and characterisation of proteins and peptides (e.g. HPLC, HPLC-MS and NMR). You are also very interested in expanding your own competences towards protein and peptide technologies such as protein/peptide analysis, characterisation and handling as this is also essential for the job.
